Paul van Dyk: XXL Clubnight
by Raven: 03-01-2003

Now I'm a huge PvD fan. But I hardly ever listen to his online sets b/c they lack the magic and the vibe that you get to feel when you're at one of his live performances. Most of his online sets tend to lack the progression and variety that are present when he has time to play an extended set. They're usually filled with big powerhouse tunes and dancefloor favorites that are incredible to hear when you're at the club but aren't really for everyday listening. Over the past couple of years I've felt that his best online sets have been from his XXL Clubnight gigs. This years is no exception. In fact, I think it's his best set since his vandit casino birthday party back in dec of 2001.

There are a LOT of new tunes on here and I love how he starts off on a slower pace and then gradually increases the BPM's. The programming is exactly how I like it, beginning with groovey disco house and then slowly moving into some darker techy beats with some funky ass-kicking breaks to dirty it up a little. His mixing and transitions are as clean as can be and he never loses your interest throughout the entire 3 hours. This set is filled with a lot of quality house, breaks and the irrefutably guilty pleasure of the PvD trance machine. It is eclectic enough to appease most open minded people.

I'm sure most of you will be getting this set very soon.

It's great stuff
