JT Donaldson: Franchise Player 01 (JT's Smoove Ride)
by Lust-E: 03-04-2007

Smoove is my word. Its a hybrid of smooth and groove that i use to describe beats and mixes that have really smooth flow and lock you into a really nice groove. And this mix does that in spades. Franchise Player 01 is all about deep house beats laid over groovy basslines. Perfect beats for an afternoon in the sun or cruising around town. This is West Coast House along the lines of Lance Desardi and Mark Farina, so if you don't like that sound, this ain't your bag baby. But fans of deep house should definetly check this mix out, its very funky and dubby. The basslines complement each other nicely and build at points, but come right back down to chill level before you know it.

The vibe is established early on with some soulful vocal house tracks with live instrumentation and bass kicks. The basslines get more pronounced as JT drifts us lazily into the deep house gem, Vibezelect-I Believe (Dub) with horns in the background and an infectious chorus. From here, he makes a left turn into my favorite track on the cd, Frederico Y Vincenzo-Distant Star (Frederico's Dub) an almost spacey house track and builds on that with Derrick Carter's funky dub of Greenskeepers-Polo Club.

Later on JT showcases some tech house sounds to mix it up, keen example being Luke Soloman-Phantoms, but then stays true to his orginal formula by bringing it right back down with the soulful house of Freaks-Right Now and the funky vocal of White Lotus Society-Space Cadillac (Derrick Carter's Club Vocal) which is some mighty fine house complete with a sax solo and also a pretty good metaphor for this whole smoove mix. Funky, deep house that makes you feel like you are rollin down A1A with the top down in the sun. Dubby and lush house with beautiful vocals sprinkled throughout that makes for a really nice soundtrack to a day at the beach or hopefully, poolside at WMC.
