A rare occasion, PvD right here in Frankfurt, and that at my bread and butter club, the U60311, renowned for its top class techno parties. Odd combination, thus an event not to be missed. The party was headlined as the 15 year anniversary party of the radio show "Maximal" hosted by Tillmann Uhrmacher on radio station Sunshine Live (which plays mostly trance afaik), who apart from hosting that show also DJ's (horribly) and produces trance.

When I got there about 12:30, I was greeted by really trancey trance. At the U, that just felt wrong. Plus the crowd was none of the usual U people, but rather provincial trance followers, who listen to that radio station. Weird. Then Uhrmacher intermittently would yell something into the mic, annoying the hell out of me. I clearly felt like being in the wrong movie (as we say in German). It took me the better part of an hour to get used to everything.

At 2 PvD came on for a 3 hour set. Thankfully, Uhrmacher refrained from his stupid announcements during the set. PvD started out OK, but it quickly became clear that he wasn't about to play a hard set to suit the location. The opposite was the case, very trancey indeed, and - very un-PvD - very slow bpm-wise, apparently catering to the non-expert crowd, or so I figured. As a result I found it rather boring for the first 2 hours. Only then did he pick it up, starting with Emmanuel Top - Mars and then really got going for the last hour, some excellent tracks. Overall, not a night to write home about really. PvD set rating maybe 5/10.

The set was broadcast on Sunshine Live, so will be available form the usual sources.
