What a great, fun night. One of the best night of my summer. Got to Crobar around 10:30, finally parked and met everyone at Brite Bar. It was the perfect meet up spot right around the corner from the club. We had a good crew going – Dan, Greg, Regina, Ruben, Gina, Jrod and Bubblz, Adrienne, Andrew, Jess, Gaaf, and more. Headed into the club around 11 or so and got in with no problems. There was a descent sized crowd already and it was still early.
Desyn was OK. Wasn’t blown away, but it wasn’t bad. Everyone was just amped for Digweed so I couldn't wait till he came on. Place got more and more packed and by the time Digweed came on at 1:28am you could barely move. And, there was a guy to girl ratio of about 70 to 30. Didn’t matter though, when the man came on we were ready. Danced my ass off the entire time. Crowd didn’t bother me, I didn’t care. It was mad packed with little room to move. Sound was a bit off and muffled at first but then seemed more tweaked into Digweeds’ set and became more clear and crisp.
His set was good. As Schmoobin stated, it was more “loungey”. It wasn’t as hard and dark, and there was a good amount of building. There was definitely a progression from beginning to end. He also played some beautiful, soft female vocal tracks. Very pretty. Banged out some of the classics as well. It was a good, solid set. I was happy. I do wish he spun one more last track toward the end – he closed at 6:55 and I definitely thought he had one more in him.
I’ve heard some negative reviews of his set by others, who thought that it was boring and blah, but I personally thought it was very good. IMO, it certainly wasn’t his “worst NYC performance ever” which some people are labeling it. It wasn’t GREAT or mind-blowing, but solid and good. And being with everyone made the night even better.
Overall the club night was great. Crowd was OK – some typical annoying people all over the dance floor and way too many guys. Club itself was awesome. Cryogenics came down at one point and it was a beautiful, blissful, blind moment. Great point in the night is when Andrew and I headed into VIP upstairs and got kicked out of one booth after a few minutes, then headed to the best VIP booth up there, and realized our way in was by making friends. It was so nice to have room to dance, not be hot, have a great view, and free drinks. Eventually the others were able to join us and we had our own cool comfortable spot.
Great time chillin with ya’ll – saw lots of other peeps at Crobar – lots of old friends that came out of the woodwork as well as MOTO, Highmay, Charlie, Jed, Aztec, Erin & Chris, Vic, Brandon, and the rest of the GN crew. Schmoobin took a bunch of pics, so I’m sure they’ll be up soon.
Headed to Astoria after for a little after party to end the night right. Great seeing you all, can’t wait till next time. Won’t forget this one!
