9th Oct - MANDY, Matthew Jonson (live), Tyrant @ Fabric

Friday night - Errol Alkan, Ivan Smagghe @ Fabric
Saturday night - MANDY, Matthew Jonson (live), Tyrant @ Fabric

holy mamma.

well ... Tyrant night - as always - delivered.
Set listings (Room 2):
MANDY 12-2,
Matthew Jonson (live) 2-4/4.30ish
Tyrant - 4/4.30ish -7.50

MANDY delivered solid beats, crowd-pleaser Mylo - Under Pressure springs to mind. Hearing that track an awful lot recently, it's edging close to 'overplayed' territory. Almost! But not quite yet; and not quite as near as Alter Ego - Rocker & Deep Dish - Flashdance.

Anyway - Matthew Jonson - live set, really stretching the Fabric sound system to deliver some freakishly deep bass sounds and sonic / trademark subsonic vibrations. Tyrant - not as "hard" seemingly, after Matthew Jonson, but trademark relentless driving beats with some wacked-out acid and tribal top lines. I don't think I stopped dancing for more than about 20 or 30 minutes in total on Saturday night. "This - this - this is the good shit" as i was heard to mumble to my friends more than once last night. Probably about the music

Having double-Fabric'd (Friday and Saturday) - I have to say, Friday was merely 'ok', Saturday was excellent. That may be partly a reflection of my taste in music and/or state of sobriety, and the fact that it seemed like ivan smagghe was only just starting to pull the good records out of his box when fatigue dictated that we head home at 4.20. Nevertheless, Friday gets a "6.5/10" vs. Saturday's "8/10". The crowd was really up for it on Saturday (much more so than on Friday i felt), great vibe of anticipation, and it really kicked off during Matthew Jonson's set. This guy has talent!

Lee & Craig were on point again ... so much so that although we made a brief excursion to Room 1 to check out Agoria (who I was expecting great things from having seen him perform at Sonar) in Room 2, group consensus had us moving back to the tyranny of Room 1 within 10 minutes. It wasn't that Agoria was bad; very far from it! Just that somehow those Tyrant sets are addictive, they have a way of just sucking you in, whirling you round and then spitting you out into the sunshine at 8am - dazed, confused, but with a huge smile on your face ...

Roll on next month!

IVAN! They still book him?

Would have loved to have seen M.A.N.D.Y but a live act would have been better.

Glad to hear Matthew rocked it, only seen him once and was thouroghly impressed. Did he play decompression? Although probebly played out track by now, hearing it live must be something else especially on fabrics system

hi mike,
bedrock
unfortunately i didn't make bedrock on the thursday ... as i was booked in for a double-fabric weekend as Scratchapella's London tour guide, and since I hadn't enjoyed it that much the 1st time around (due to over-crowding), i decided to skip it.

fabric - friday
nope, didn't get around to ashley beedle. Alkan was ok, but somehow we weren't really in the mood. I enjoyed Smagghe more, especially from about 4am onwards when he started pulling out some records with a more acid twist. Unfortunately we had to leave about 4.20, but apparently he played on till about 5.40 ...

i could sure use another proper london weekend

well, you know you're always welcome, :-)

yeah i heard bedrock was a let down also. but its more about the experience. its exciting to go to the griffen before, hit up all 4 rooms @ heaven....its good times. the rest of the weekend supplies the music with more substance. bedrock is a great kickoff though.

doesnt seem like they are having a november one as they usually announce it right after a previous one.

well, you know you're always welcome

cheers mate

There comes a point in every man's drunkenness where nothing is so fascinating as his own opinions. Some, myself high among them, need no beer to start them.
