PvD @ Summer Stage / Spirit reviews?

I'm kinda curious... I was looking forward to the night but I was told to leave the club before I could see PvD. Did he play NBY? Get Loose? That Duncan Sheik track?

Fill me in.

wow..what an amazing night....after i bought the tix for PVD and then seen the forcast i did nothing but bitch about how bad it was going to suck with tha rain..when me and my friends got into the city it started pouring but i was still in a good mood..we ended up buying umbrellas and walking to central park..by the time we got there we were pretty wet..as soon as i started hearing the beats from outside the park i was getting psyched! as soon as we got in the park we put our umbrellas down and went right up to the front..at that point i could care less about the rain..the vibe was amazing...all these people dancing in the rain and having a great time..no one gave a shit about the rain...it was amazing..and when the lasers were shooting across the sky the rain looked like glitter, and from dancing so much the rain actually kept me cool.
his set blew me away..he spun alot of hard stuff and everyone was loving it! people were going crazee! i thought it was fun towards the end when they through all those beach balls out..it was crazee...beach balls flying everywhere! when he spun that one song with prodigy in it i totally went nuts! does anyone know what track that was?? he really surprised me with some of the stuff he was playing..then i heard some stuff that sounded really PSY like too. thats one thing i love about PVD..everytime i see him..he always throws tracks in his set you would never expect. that "another fucking lovesong track was amazing too. other highlights of the nite..when he teased us with for an angel, and when he played " i feel you" i love that track!i really hope that someone recorded this set and i can find it! by the end of SS we were soaking wet, and went back to my friend joannas house in jersey to wash and dry our clothes before coming to spirit, the only thing that really put a damper on my night was finding out that due to the rain my 300 dollar celly is no longer working, the the worst part is i just got it a month ago! we ended up getting to spirit at about 2.30 and i really enjoyed his set there too, and i like how the dj booth is right there. i must say tho i definetly had more fun at SS. highlight of the night..at the very end we got paul to come down and take a pic with us..can't wait to see how that turned out!

translucent, neophyte, lust-e, metro..it was great to see you guys again.

Post review

The weekend was DEFINITELY worth the wait.

Me, skytrancegirl, and danny k left PA around 1:30 and picked up jerseygirl in jersey city around 4. We headed into the city by train and met up with sky's friend peter and had a quick lunch. As soon as we stepped outside, it started raining, and we had 40 blocks to walk. We said "screw the rain" and kept walking but broke down halfway to buy hats and umbrellas. Despite the umbrellas, we were soaked to the bone in minutes. But still excited as ever.

We could hear the bass several blocks from the park and the anticipation was killing me! When we reached Central Park, the first people we saw were Ruben and some fellow groovanauts wearing ponchos. It seemed like everyone had their umbrellas down so we put ours down to and we got up front with no problem and danced by brian, kasper, and everyone they were with. Everyone was going nuts -- no one even cared about the pouring rain. It didnt stop raining at all... and we were all soaked but we just kept dancing and yelling. It seemed like every time the songs peaked, the rain poured harder. It was like a special effect, like Paul was commanding the rain. And he was in a great mood -- dancing and smiling the whole time. And what an awesome set -- i didnt expect anything less.

When it got dark, they put on the most amazing lazer light show. multi-colored lazers shooting through the rain, a green beam of light shining down on pvd, enclosing him in lazers -- it was CRAZY, and lazers making designs in the trees. They threw out huge plastic beach balls and i must have gotten hit in the head a dozen times, but it was so much fun. Paul ended the night by saying he was glad to be there They gave us 4 hours to go home and change and get ready for round 2.

We went back to jersey, washed and dried our pants and sneakers, and i put on my Vandit shirt, all psyched for Spirit. I might mention at this point that i'm pretty sure i broke my wrist at work on thursday and i was completely in pain and unable to bend it (i'm as sure as a person with no health insurance can be). But that didnt stop me from dancing extra hard at Spirit. We got right in, and found brian and his friends, saw Nik (pacha4life), the Doctor, kasper, and some other random friends. Spirit was a nice club and even though it was packed, it was still a good time. I ran into courtney's friend Heeday (sp?) and watched him do an awesome light show. Paul spun an incredible set -- even better than at the park. I saw Ruben, metro, and lust-e at the very end of the night -- where were you guys? i looked for you all night!

Found sky and jersey outside bursting with excitement after having just gotten their picture taken with paul - i was soooo jealous! We took the train back to jersey and everyone slept except me -- as usual.. so i went to work on no sleep and with a broken wrist last night, and only made it til about 11 until i came home exhausted and in unbearable pain.

It was an awesome weekend. i'm glad i picked that party over tiesto. But i cant wait to read the reviews.

Summer Stage was one of the best, if not THE best sets I've heard from PvD in the States. His set was relentless! He played much harder stuff than he usually plays around here. PvD dropped the sort of tracks I'd only heard him play in Germany. There were even a few tracks during the set that bordered on hard house. I'm curious about whether he planned on playing such a set from the get go or whether he adjusted to harder stuff because of the weather. I guess it would be much harder to get the crowd into it under a torrential downpour by playing fluffy trance. This was definitely one of the most memorable EDM experiances I'd ever had. It was rather surreal to see a crowd of people dancing around without a care in a monsoon. Some people were in bathing suits while others in expensive designer clothes that were undoubtedly ruined by the rain. It's not often that you see women splashing around in puddles without a care while wearing pumps.

Spirit was a solid set as well, although not nearly as hard. Hearing lostep - burma off of Sasha's new Involver on the Steve Dash system (set up just for that night) was an awesome surprise. The vibe at Spirit was great, with many Twiloites there that I hadn't seen out in ages and a few peole that I keep running into at PvD shows all around the world. Of course the night wouldn't be the same without my fellow Groovanauts who were there in full force. Fortunately, PvD has abandoned his practice of repeating several tracks throughout either set and didn't drop NBY even once. Lucky for him. If I heard him play that track even one more time, I probably would have bum rushed the booth and smashed his PowerBook.

Those 3 comments alone were enough to know I am pissed even more at myself for missing this. Never again.

Glad you all had such an awesome time. Those are some sick reviews!!!! I can't wait till he comes around again - hopefully in the next few months, hopefully at Spirit!

All I can say is FUCKING AMAZING, that was the best sets I've ever heard from him..EVER!! I told myself if he spun the same crap that he did in February at Roxy that I wasn't going to NYto see him again, but to my surprise he nailed it for me. Got to Summer Stage at about 6 and it was raining hard as hell but the music was so good and hard hitting that I didn't care. It was such a great time dancing in the rain to PVD. Then went back "home" to change out of those ridiculously wet clothes, and got to Spirit at about 100. I don't remember the name of the DJ that was playing before PVD but the hour that I did hear him, he was very good imo. When PVD came on I lost my freakin mind, like Ruben said his Spirit set wasn't as hard but GREAT none the less, and thank god he played some stuff I've never heard before and he didn't play NBY and he didn't repeat anything, he was phockin awesome, I never danced so much in my life. The club vibe was AMAZING, everybody was there to have a good time, and I met a couple of people that were just in the club being freindly, very good vibe. A few of us pushed our way to the front and danced our asses off and he did three encores I think so anyway. It was one of the best weekends I've ever had.

Time for the shout outs:

-Ruben (Translucent) - I had a fucking awesome time with you during PVD and the afterparty and the after after party....you phocking rock like always
-Jess (prplhz) - There are no words to describe the ridiculous and amazing time we had goofing off and dancing together, I am so glad we got to hang out all that time, you are tons of fun and I would party with you anyday sweetie.
-Mike (RalphWiggum) - you are the coolest peps I've met in a long time, you keep a smile on Jess' and you will have no problems outta me :p
-Gaaf (Raven) - You Da Man, you know we always have a blast when when party so no need to say what we already know
-Jorge (Jrod) and Yosra (Bubblz) - my peps for the whole weekend, I had an awesome time with you two and thanks for letting me crash the weekend, I luv you two
-Matt (Matrim) and Nikki (Ms. Nikki)- I really enjoyed you twos company, I'm so glad you both decided to come to Spirit to party, I felt like I've known you two forever the way we were partying, hope you visit soon from Atlanta
-Greg (Lust E)- It was great partying with you dude, your phockin awesome like always, see ya Friday
-Andreas (Overseas) - Dude I can't beleive you actually made it, we partied hard too, sorry couldn't see you before you left on Sunday, but you already know the situation, see ya next time buddy
-Brian (Metro) - Finally I met the infamous Metro, you are a party animal, who knew, I would party with you anytime
-Dan (Aiko) and George (Ebomb) - It was great seeing you two guys, good to party with you guys, you two kick ass - see you two July 16
-Janet (Sky) - I only got to see you for all of 10 minutes, but I'm glad you found us and gave us that warm welcome, hope to see ya again soon

I saw a quick siting of GirlieGirl and Dr. Pleasure (i think that was him); and it was nice to meet Jerseygirl and Vtecjunkie too.

Big props to all those crazy bastards dancing in the rain at Summer Stage. The music was awesome, but difficult to hear from the tent I holed myself up in for most of the night. I kept thinking that the rain was only gonna last an hour, but it never stopped.

The highlight of SS had to be Gaaf and Matt doing their crazy umbrella dance the last hour or so. :p They looked like Fred Astaire on crack!

The afterparty was amazing, Jerry Bonham was incredible, probably the best opener I have ever heard.... By far! Paul was amazing, tons of new stuff, incredibly hard - dark - and even a bit housey. He played a lot longer than people expected, and the sound was so much better than the last time I was there. I do agree with most, the bottle service is a bit ridiculous... it cuts off half of the dance floor. The place was packed, but not unbearable. So happy Matt and Nikki decided to make it out. Great seeing everyone.

BTW.... Armin van Buuren will be at Summer Stage in August. PVD's next NY gig is in the Hamptons labor day weekend. And then back in NY in October.

Andreas - thanks for the very sweet text! I missed you too!

I got a text message from someone else but I didn't recognize the number (not in my phone). I think it was from one of you guys because it was a Jersey cell phone (I think?!). No idea which one of you sent it! LOL

i could have gone to summerstage for free. my friend would have gotten me a position working for the rock the vote tent. too bad i only found out at 4 pm and i already had [much better] plans.

and i'm glad to hear he didn't play nothing but you. maybe he finally uploaded some new songs into his pc.

What a crazy 36 hours in Manhattan ... dear god, paul truly 'laid the smack down' in central park. The set was as hard and and as sick as at the Vandit night in Berlin 2 weeks ago (maybe even harder) ... at one point towards the end, when ruben, aiko, myself and a few others were huddling under cover trying to warm up before heading back out I'm sure he hit sometihng like 170, 180 bpm - i looked at ruben and said 'jesus, that's, borderline hard house or even hardcore'. *that* was the single hardest track i have ever heard pvd spin

to everyone i met - props - there was a LOT of rockstar-level partying going on, check the crazy after-after-party at Xander's and the kid who rocked up with Briana's crew (Armando i tihnk his name was), who walked in drunk as a skunk and spun a great set with a bunch of records he didn't know at all. Phewee!!

Mr Wiggim, Krystle, Neophyte, jrod, bubblz, gaaf, matt, nicky (and glittergirl, right at the end of Spirit)-- great to meet you guys at last. To everyone else who i saw again after meeting in Miami - - was AWESOME to party with you guys again!

So now it's 11am and i have to shower and go to work after the red-eye flight from JFK but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's photos (if anyone took photos), and I'll put mine up when i get home from work tonight.

I can only check Friday/Saturday off as - an un-be-fucking-lievable nyc adventure.
