Sasha @ Tribehouse, Germany - review

What a fiasco!

So I pick up these 2 guys here in Frankfurt, one of which just drove up from Munich for this, to drive up to Neuss (near Cologne) to see one of the most elusive DJs, elusive in Germany that is. We have a good trip and all, listening to the brand new Deep Dish GU (we liked CD1 and thought CD2 sucked). At 11 pm we get to the club to be politely informed that

"unfortunately Sasha won't play tonight. He has cancelled on short notice, 3 hours ago, due to illness".

We're like, you gotta be kidding, but no, the club had produced makeshift flyers with the e-mail or fax or whatever Sasha's agency had sent to cancel the gig.

In Sasha's stead Timo Maas, who happens to be resident at that club, was to play and they had lowered admission from € 15 to € 10.

Not that I was particuarly keen on seeing Timo Maas (he sucks IMO), but that wasn't our destiny either. The bouncers said, upon us being, uhm, very disappointed about Sasha's failure to show up, "oh, you guys wouldn't have gotten in anyway, you're dressed to conservatively". Gimme a break.

There had been much discussion on a German board (German TA in fact) about the door at that club and, get this, they are even bragging about "selecting their guests" on their website. I knew beforehand I would hate the place, being all uptight, pseudo-exclusive, elitist, and most importantly, so not about the music. We had to admit, though, that the style of some people ahead of us was extremely hip: jeans, jeans jacket and white sneakers! Obviously we could't match that by far.

So we said fuck it and drove back to Frankfurt, listened to some good music, and left it at that.

On the positive side, it was actually a blessing that Sasha didn't show up. Had he been there with us unable to get it, now that would have sucked.

All in all, awesome night with a Brit too lazy or too fucked up to fly 1 hour to Germany and a dance club that doesn't deserve that label.

I will make sure PvD won't even consider any invitation by them to spin there.

So typical. I thought he'd redeemed himself - guess not. That is such bull!

Can't believe that there is even a discussion on an american board about that. I talked to some friends in germany and they are all pretty frustrated.

I don't know the background why he didn't show up but I personally don't blame sasha. I know this club cause I lived in this area until last year. I could imagine that something happened that pissed him off. If he had been ill, they would have known it a bit earlier, I think. Same thing happened to them with Dave Seaman a couple of months ago. It's really a bad thing, some friends of mine had been looking forward to it for a long time, too.

@overseas: anyway, hope you'll enjoy vandit night at the casino in berlin. It's a great club and Paul usually spins especially well when he's at home.

Have fun!

One would think that Sasha would feel a greater sense of responsibility to the patrons, even if the club did do something to piss him off. Granted, unless the man himself posts here with an excuse we should probably give him the benefit of the doubt. Then again, he showed up very late at Buzz last summer because they "couldn't get him out of bed at the hotel."

Ah, yes, I remember that...the first time I met you all!!! They couldn't get him out of bed b/c he was too cracked out, so it doesn't really surprise me that he didn't show up...that does suck though...I'd be pissed...

Danny Howells Quote from his LAST DANCE party at ARC:

"To all of you who came down for my final arc party, I couldn't have asked for a greater way to end what has been the most amazing and unforgettable residency. That was EXACTLY the party I was hoping for ... the Wizard waving his orb from the speaker, the "Danny" girls on the other speaker,... But all I wanted to say was thankyou for being a MAJOR part of what has been an amazing couple of years for me - .... Anyway, I'll leave it at that, but again - thankyou SO MUCH to all of you, I'll miss seeing you every month but, as I've said many times, New York is my favourite city, so don't expect me to ever stay away too long - because I won't.
Much love. Danny xox"

LOL, yeah I live in Germany but I am still sort of part of the US club scene, knowing tons of people through boards like this. So I like to share my experience with my US friends

I know, I heard about that having happened before, like with Seaman. That suggests there is a problem with the club rather than the DJs involved. However, the excuse sounded so lame, especially since it was delivered only a few hours before the gig. Also, his reputation as far as professionalism is concerned hasn't exactly been stellar of late.

@overseas: anyway, hope you'll enjoy vandit night at the casino in berlin. It's a great club and Paul usually spins especially well when he's at home.

Thanx, I will I suppose you have been to a Vandit night youself while you lived in Germany? This is going to be my 8th Vandit night. And my 30th PvD gig overall. So I know what a treat I'm in for.

P.S.
uhm, do I know any of your German friends? any of them on German TA?

@overseas: yeah, I had a girlfriend in berlin some years ago, so I spent quit a few weekends over there. I like the casino cause it's not too big.

I heard that Sasha already offered tribehouse a new date in august, but I could imagine people might be very careful with that...

anyway: schoenen gruss an paule at least you can be pretty sure that he will show up @casino

ps: what is german TA?
