for me...a good dj is one who (with all other factors relative) has the ability and the willingness to a)stick to what he/she wants to communicate thru the set and b)is never content with what is going on at the moment. playing crowd pleasers DOES NOT constitute being a good dj...it's when you can play a completely unknown track and have the place explode leaving everyone asking the question "what the FUCK was that track and WHERE can i get it!?"

this also sparks the debate of whether djing is meant just to please a club crowd or is an actual art form. to me, djing is art, it's music, it's complete expression. but for most, it's just about having a good time.

as a dj i refuse to play what will "please" a crowd...i play what i want when i want to...luckily people really like what i do...so i must be doing something right
