Since we hadn’t been out for a few nights, things are kind of slow around here right now. We decided to check out Pacha for their 31st birthday. Got there around 330am, and the entire outside was lit up with purple lights. We were a bit relieved since there was a bit of a queue outside, so it didn’t look like it was going to be as slow as it had been the past few times we had gone.Sarah Main

One of the other reasons I was reluctant about going was that the only DJs on the flyer were Sarah Main, and someone else I had never heard of. I have seen Sarah play plenty of times over the past few years. She’s one of the main residents at Pacha for the summer and winter seasons. She can also be seen in an issue of Spanish Playboy that came out a few months ago featuring the Girls of Pacha. Every time I have seen her, she has been good, but nothing spectacular. Last night I found out that’s because she must hold back quite a bit when opening for big name DJs.

PachaAbout 10 minutes after I got there, she dropped this amazing new deep progressive dub of Tears For Fears “Shout”. This one is definitely going to be a terrace favorite this summer. From there, she went back into some funky, and Balearic house, with a bit of electro thrown in to keep things moving (New big electro track this summer. Sounds like its either Adult or Miss Kitten lyrics are something like “I don’t want your love just fascination”). The best part about her set was the fact that she was scratching like she took lessons from Donald Glaude all winter. At one point the other DJs who’s name I don’t know had one track playing, was looping the break from another track on the CD deck making a nice break beat, and Sarah was scratching away on the other turntable. I wish someone got a picture of me. I was standing there with my jaw on the floor looking like a kid who just saw Santa fly off his roof on Christmas Eve.

Another great part about the night was the decorations. They had these big white spheres hung from the ceiling with vines strung around them. Then big pieces of white cloth strung a bit higher up. It really brought back the old Balearic outdoor feeling that’s slowly dieing with all the sound restriction over here. " />
