"I don't feel scared of changing my music, nor my style. When it's time
to change, I do it. Instead of wasting time thinking about what other people
think, I concentrate on the creative side of music. I play what I like, not
just a kind of music."
~Mauro
Picotto
If you don't already know about this Italian DJ/Producer, Mauro Picotto, well
now's the time to get acquainted with this diversified, techno madman. He's
known for his ruthless, devouring sets that will make anyone that has never
attempted to dance, DANCE! The wallflowers wont be wallflowers after hearing
one of his explosive, hard, banging shows. Mauro puts the under in underground.
There is no particular style that Mauro has; it ranges from trance to techno
with climaxes that come back with intrepid cadences that hit you before you
know it. Even Mixmag commented on Mauro's sound, "Melodic trance? Pah, Mauro
spits on your melodic trance."
Landing a hot spot at #8 in DJ Mag didn't come by chance. Mauro was seen playing
at some of the most renowned venues such as Twilo, Privilege, Gatecrasher, Space
(Miami), Cream, Ministry of Sound, Godskitchen, Space (Ibiza) and Pacha. He
has been and is still rocking festivals such as Godskitchen Global Gathering,
Nature One, Dance Valley, Homelands, Berlin Love Parade, Sensation, Innercity,
and Gatecrasher. The list goes on and on. Picotto also played Creamfields UK
and is the only DJ heading Creamfields Ireland 2002 with live acts, Underworld
and Faithless. Always on the mainstage, Picotto is no second rate DJ, he's been
nominated and won "Best International DJ" five times in the year 2001-2002.
He won the titles at the Danish Dance Awards (two years in a row), Ericsson
Swiss Dance Awards, BBM Irish Dance Awards, and the Deejay Magazine Spanish
Dance Awards. He also took over the show at the German Dance Awards and won
Best Producer, Best Radio Hit and once again Best International DJ. He beat
out well-respected DJs Carl Cox and Paul Van Dyk in the TMF awards in Holland.
The TMF award is equivalent to MTV here in America and is one of the eminent
music awards in Europe.
With his forte and ability to demolish the dance floor, Mauro Picotto brought
more attention to him by his originative production. Holding positions at BXR
with A&R and producer status has also helped with his status of producer/DJ.
In 2002, he released "The Others" compilation alongside single "Pulsar 2002",
with a remix from none other than DJ Tiësto. This compilation was Mauro's UK
debut album, it contained club hits and revered songs that even Judge Jules
and Carl Cox had to play.
When listening to "The Others", the songs musically spoke for themselves and
the amazing aptitude of Mauro Picotto's production work. With other tracks such
as "Iguana", "Komodo" and "Lizard" , they have made an impact on the UK Top
40 charts and with a newer track called, "Back to Cali" it has abducted new
followers with its trancier sound. Mauro has just finished a new compilation
called, "Live in Ibiza" which is out on his own label called, Media Records.
This CD is full of experimental yet hard dark, techno tracks. This CD is unstoppable
and explains what Mauro's style is all about. His production is something that
he just feels, its nothing planned, but he never stops breaking into new territory.
Mauro is definitely a busy man. He had his hands full when he ran his own Pulsar
night in the UK and toured globally. But now he's juggling a Godskitchen residency
at Eden in Ibiza plus playing numerous summer festivals. Despite all the hectic
touring, he's coming to America! Mauro is taking some time out of his busy schedule
before the year comes to an end, to take care of his US audience in October.
It will be a mini tour that will hit the cities he missed in the Spring but
this tour will make you love him more and await his return for next year. The
dates on the West Coast will be sponsored by none other then Godskitchen. Mauro
will be doing an Afterhourpower party after his LA event. On the east cost,
don't miss when Mauro makes his grand appearance back to New York, the first
city that welcomed him to the United States. After two years of waiting for
his return, this will be a night that won't be forgotten in clubbing history
since Twilo. Having much respect in the scene, even Pete Tong had to give props
to Mauro and considers him the "'Michael Jackson' of Dance Music." Take this
opportunity to be a part of this phenomenon that America is about to experience.
