Sasha and Digweed are assholes!
Ha ha ha now that Iíve got your attention...
They fucking closed out at 1!!!!
That is not a typo!
In fact the bitches ended a little before 1 so their one measly encore ended at like 1:05! And actually, that was after everyone was cheering for like 3-4 minutes before they came back for their one encore. Wtf?! The entire floor was packed, everyone was psyched...nobody moved for like ten minutes....Then security started taking apart the DJ booth and the crowd slowly dispersed...what a fucking letdown... And then it took me another hour to get my jacket from coat check...apparently these people donít understand the concept of numbers on coat check items possibly being a good way of keeping the items in order...
Ok enough bitching.
It was fucking awesome while it lasted.
Sasha and Digweed traded off, at first one hour each, but then they switched back and forth fairly quickly. Iím a lousy trainspotter. I only recognized three songs and the only one I know the name of is "Walking On Fire" which Digweed played, of course. Btw JayP, Digweed didnít play any breaks. In fact his set was pretty much exactly the kind of stuff I expected. We all know his sound, right? It works, it kicks ass, and he played lots of it. Whatever he put on his new mix album, either its not that experimental or he didnít play any of it in Rochester.
Sasha didnít play any breaks either. Ok, so a little secret...the main reason I drove up to Rochester to hear them, is because I have never seen Sasha+Digweed before. (Iíve only been to Twilo once...to see PVD...and then it got shut down.) So anyway, someoneís gonna have to help me out on whether or not this is what Sasha typically sounds like. After the first hour, in which he played a lot of really good stuff I wish I knew the names to, he basically played a lot of really weird shit. Really strange long loops of high-pitched noises, and then the bass line would roll in and everyone would go nuts. I guess the songs were in there somewhere but I kept getting distracted by these super-long buildups. Also I found his buildups pretty much impossible to predict. A lot of times I thought the beat would drop he would hold off longer. I thought he was really weird, but also very good. He really built up the crowd so it would explode once he decided to let them.
Crowd was really amped the entire evening. People were definitely into it, that was really cool. Great people, pretty friendly, a very diverse crowd actually.
Oh their one encore was definitely breaks, the only breaks they played the entire evening. It was a fucking amazing song actually. Its got piano and something that sounds like a guitar on it. Ha ha ha maybe someone will figure out what it is.
Their light setup is ridiculous. Fucking amazing. All the lasers combined with a pretty powerful smoke machine made for some impressive eye candy. I wasnít as impressed with their video, but whatever. I hope they didnít pay too much for whoever made that because it doesnít really stand out.
Sasha was so obviously cracked out I heard multiple groups of random people making comments the entire night. It was damn funny.
What constitutes a trainwreck? Is it considered a trainwreck if the song skips temporarily like on a bad CD player? If yes, then Sasha trainwrecked four times. Twice right at the very beginning, within about five minutes of each other, and then a couple of other times through the evening.
People seemed a lot more excited about Digweed than Sasha. I hadnít thought there was such a tremendous popularity differential.
I saw three people wearing Twilo shirts. I was impressed. What the hell are Twilo people doing in fucking Rochester?!?
