Intrview: Shik Stylko
by Royce Haven: 09-01-2008

Can you enlighten us on how you conceived the name “Shik Stylko”?

Thats quite a funny story...and a simple one: We were eating a pizza while thinking about a project name. Because we were at a club the day before named "kö," we thought about the names that club had over the years cause its very old. So, it was first called "shik" then "style" and then "kö"!!!! so we thought: Shik Stylkö sounded cool!!! We changed the "ö" into an "o" cause its a bit more easy to spell!

Besides music what other interests do you have?

Doing lots of sports and just normal things, such as playing soccer on PlayStation 3 like crazy!!!

It looks like you guys are making a big splash on the scene. What are some of the things that you are doing to stay consistent?

We just love doing music and production. That keeps us consistent.

While producing as a duo, do you guys ever have disagreements? Who wins most of the arguments?

Sure. I mean Roman and I, we know each other for more than 17 years and are very good friends. So surely, we have some disagreements, but always, we come to a good end.

I understand you guys have your own label, Realbasic, what releases can we look forward to?

We actually have two tracks coming up on Realbasic and Realbasic Tracks. One will be a new Shik Stylko single called "Get My Eyes On You", the other one on Realbasic Tracks is called "To the F***" from Matt Caseli and I.

What releases or remixes by you guys should we look out for this summer?

There are a few tracks which will come out soon. In June, there will be a new release on Peppermint Jam called "That Night," with mixes from Baggie Baggovic and Matt Caseli. Also, a new release on Housesession called "Many Dayz" will finally see the light of the day, with many mixes including a great remix from Novy. That will be promoted over the summer in addition to a new track on Peppermint Jam we just signed called "Moonpearls."

Also, a new bootleg we did from Bob Marley´s "Jammin" will be sent around by us for the summer. Additionally, two new singles I did together with Matt Caseli on Realbasic Tracks and our new sublabel "Dangerous Cutz"...and last but not least Matt and I did new mixes for Regina´s Porn track on Soulfuric. So...a few things in the next months, together with remixes for Witty Tunes, Mod, Deep Josh, Peppermint Jam, Muak Records and a few other labels.

What are some of the best places that you guys have performed at?

There are many...Surely, Key Club in Hong Kong, Apartment in Frankfurt and Pacha in Munich, where we play regularly.

Time to spill it. What does your studio set up look like?

We had everything analog but we turned everything into digital at the moment. Still, we have our ADT 48 channel mixer from the 80’s, which we will change soon...we´re doing various different stuff, so it is easier to handle everything with Total Recall.

Name one studio item (hardware or software) that you simply can’t live with out?

Just Logic and some secret weapons:)...our Virus TI is one of our most used synths at the mo...

Are there any really cool production tips that you can share with your fellow Groovanaut members?

As a tip, we would say that, as our tracks are played mainly in clubs, its important to build the whole mixdown around kick & bass.
